As a child I remember being told that Valentine's Day commemorated St. Valentine, a priest who wrote love letters to a young woman while he was imprisoned for doing something he wasn't suppose to ... or something like that but as with most of our religious or popular holidays, it appears the foundation for this one can be also be found in a pagan holiday.

Apparently the Church Elders of the time decided that February 15... or the Ides of February, would be a great time to memorialize St. Valentine and as "luck" would have it, that day was the same day that Lupercalia, a fertility festival dedicated to the Roman God Faunus and to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus as held.

Whatever your beliefs are about the day, there is no denying that Valentines Day has turned into a huge "Hallmark" Holiday.

"According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines."

WOW - Just WOW ... that's a lot of cards! It's also quite telling, in my opinion, who carries the day for couples.

So today I am sharing the Valentine card I made for my In-laws.  I recently purchased some new dies and they just came in the mail so I had some new toys to play with!!!

I love quilts. I have made a few small ones but sewing, while I am quite capable at it, is not my passion :O)... but I love looking at them and I enjoy recreating some patterns with paper pieces.

One of the dies I purchased cuts a "Quilt" complete with stitch marks. I had some fun messing with this before I ever got around to making this card! LOL

Good evening my Crafty Peeps!
Thought I would get in on the Sketch Challenge this week from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

Since I cut it way too close for cards last year, making sure I started early and I decided that when possible, I would make two cards at a time ... so there are actually two ... the picture is showing the sentiment from the set I used (Which by the way, if anyone happens to know this set and who made it I would be most appreciative if you would leave me that information! Good morning ...

Here today is a Birthday card for a co-worker!

Sorry for the picture quality ... For some reason I really struggled with this one and my light box. And I couldn't wait for another day because I needed to take into office for everyone to sign.

I don't know a lot about photography and I normally just happy when I get decent pictures ... of anything but I think I just need to maybe work with the light angle better.
