A Rose is a Rose

The rose of the old year withers away as the new bud begins to bloom. ~Terri Guillemets, "Withered," 2004

Well hello everyone ... Yup! It's me! Surprised?
I am ... LOL

I had some good intentions to keep this blog moving along pretty good but as the fates would have it, work has been ... um interesting ... trying to get back into the rhythm of everyone's idea of important and getting sick - still sick actually. Never fun.

Anyway ... I have been tinkering a bit in my craft room off and on and managed to get a couple cards done and of course, the battery on my camera was dead. Murphy's Law.

So here I am .... finally ... with a Birthday card I made for my Mom.

I just love this image from SandiSamples. One of my favorites that I have used several times.
This one I did in shades of yellow and gold. Not sure what made me do the background like I did, but I decided to play and then after it was all colored I scattered drops of alcohol onto the cardstock.

I used a die to trace around the image, then I cut it out by hand (gasp) ... only because the die is not designed with the placed right at the opening.

Supply items
Cardstock from The Paper Studio and Stampin Up!
"Damask" embossing folder from Darice
Corner punch from Fiskars
"Labels 25" & "Romantic Rectangle" dies from Spellbinders
Pearls from Michaels
Ribbon & Bow from my stash

Hi Cara. I just love reading all the quotes you share. Very beautiful and inspiring. You must have a library collection of them.

It is good to see a new card from you after the holiday. What a beautiful birthday card you made for your mom with Sandi's rose image! The blue background really make the rose stands out and I love how you did that by scattered drops of alcohol. Awesome technique and great for under the sea/ocean theme card too. Thanks for the inspiration.

Good to have you back. Sending warm winter hugs to you and have a lovely weekend! - Christina

Cara, you apparently don't know this, but you used an awesome technique called Color Outside the Lines around the rose. So see, that was genius! LOL I am an old subscriber of a now-defunct newsletter called Technique Junkies and that was a popular technique there. Plus, I bet Split Coast Stampers has one similar. Anyway, very nice work! The card is gorgeous and I'm sure much-cherished. xoxo

Me again. Totally forgot to look up and make sure, but you are 2 for 2! What you did with the die and the rose sticking out was Outside the Box technique, you just used a die to make your "box" instead of a ruler. So, you did it one better, a great variation. I'll have to try it! xoxo
