CIU Challenge 346 – Anything Goes

A new Cut it Up Challenge has started. You can find the challenge HERE.

For these challenges, a die-cut is anything made with a manual or an electronic die-cutting machine. (Spellbinders, Cricut, MFT dies, Silhouette, etc.). Store bought die-cuts are also acceptable. Please note that handheld punches and/or paper-piecing DOES NOT count as a die-cut.

“Anything goes” challenges are always fun and this is my final challenge with the Cut it Up Team. I am in the process of moving and packing away the craftroom. Hopefully I'll can come back when I get things settled.

For my card I am using a frame die that is one of my favorites to show off a fun digi image from a lost friend of mine, Sandra Caldwell of Babycakesdnd. I always wanted her hippo images to color!

Card size: 5x7
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) & Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from FSC.Org (Wildflowers)
  • Die is unknown
  • Image from Babycakesdnd, Sandra Caldwell (Birthday Hippo 1752)
  • ProMarkers

CIU Challenge 345 – Oldie but Goodie from your Stash

Good morning!

I hate needing a sympathy card and not having anything on hand, so I try to keep several in my card file and I try to keep them gender and  religious neutral as I have many friends from all walks of life and faiths.

I often use layouts from Call me Crafty Al. This one is her September 2022 and is for a mini slimline which would work with a standard letter size envelope.

I prefer larger cards, and I found that I can use her layouts for the A2 or mini slimlines to make toppers that work for me.

My oldies though for this card are the oval die sets. They were some of the very first ones I bought when Spellbinders (which is located here in Arizona) was just starting out and was still family owned.

Card size: 5x7
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Dies from Sizzix (Classic ovals & Classic Scallop ovals) and Honeybee Stamps (Cone Flower)
  • Embossing folders from Stampin Up! (Tufted & Subtle)
  • Ink from Stampin Up! & Tsukineko (VersaFine Clair)
  • Layout used from Call me Crafty Al, September 2022
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up! (Close as a memory)
  • Stash: Bling

This challenge is asking for those fun fold cards. You know the ones … they look complicated but are oh so easy to make.

Well, here is mine to share.

The front just tucks into together and then opens and spreads out to share even more love!

Card size: 5x7

CIU Challenge 343 – Your Favorite Color

Good morning!

For my card this challenge, I found a card on Pinterest that I cased because I really like the clean layout. It’s great for beginner card makers (in my opinion) and one that can be used for any occasion and can easily be leveled up with inks, embossing folders and embellishments if desired.

Red is my favorite color, and I recently bought a large 12 x 12 pack of card stock in shades of red when JoAnn’s had their going out of business clearances.

Cased Card from KingstonMamaCrafts
Sadly, it does not looks like she has been active in cardmaking for a very long time

Card size: 5x7
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Parklane
  • Dies from CCDesigns (Dottie Trim) & Sizzix (Daisies #2)
  • Embossing folder from Spellbinders (Scattered Leaves)
  • Flower center from my stash

I am behind getting this posted. I am in the process of buying a home – it’ moving a lot faster than I thought it would but the offer has been made, and fingers crossed they accept!

This challenge is about using more than one die cut.

The oval background is the negative cut from a card I made earlier. I was so happy for this to not go to waste!

I love the skeleton leaves from Sizzix, and the design paper is one whose pattern I’m not fond of. However, I love the colors, and it works perfect with this die set! I got these beautiful multicolored leaves.

Card size: A2
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) & Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from The Paper Studio
  • Dies from Sizzix (Skeleton Leaves) & Lawn Fawn (Everyday Banners)
  • Ink: Distress ink & Versafine Clair

Truth be told, the focal point is from another card I made years ago and just never used because I was never really happy with it. I tore it apart and put the image away to be used another time. Promptly forgetting about it until I as going through some stuff and found it.

I thought it would be perfect for this masculine challenge so I added a bit of white accents to the swim tube and then popped it up on foam for dimension.

I think the sentiments are perfect and I like this card so much better!

Card size: 5 x 7
  • Birds created using a stencil I made using dies from various sets
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (Base)
  • Design paper from my stash
  • Dr. Ph Martin’s Pen-White

CIU Challenge 329 … So Sorry

A new Cut it Up Challenge has started. You can find the challenge HERE.

For these challenges, a die-cut is anything made with a manual or an electronic die-cutting machine. (Spellbinders, Cricut, MFT dies, Silhouette, etc.). Store bought die-cuts are also acceptable. Please note that handheld punches and/or paper-piecing DOES NOT count as a die-cut

I like having a few get-well cards on hand so this is my somewhat clean and simple So Sorry contribution!

The smaller feather is a bit thicker because I stacked several layers of heavy cardstock underneath the design paper to give it some dimension off the page.

Pro tip! If you like the colors but not the design of your papers, they are amazing to use for die cuts like this feather.

Card size: 4.25 x 5.50
  • Cardstock from Stampin Up!
  • Design Paper from DCWV (Amber Autumn)
  • Embossing folder from Stampin up! (Subtle)
  • Feather dies are unknown
  • Ink from Tsukineko (Versafine Clair)

My start with a C card features cats!
I did a small bit of paper piecing to create a nice backdrop. Looks a bit like a starry night sky.

I used this card as inspiration for the layout. I just tuned it on it's side.

Supplies

CIU Challenge 327, Anything but a Card

A new Cut it Up Challenge has started. I'm a day late getting it posted but you can find the challenge HERE.

This challenge we are asking you to share your die cut creation that is NOT a card.

For my project I am using a die I’ve had for a while and finally pulled out to use making a couple of super cute trees that sit on top of a tealight. The die set itself does not come with a die to cut a strip around the votives so I had to figure that out myself!

 Supplies
  • Die from Sizzix (Tree Lights)
  • Metallic Cardstock from Bazzill
  • Tealights from the Dollar Tree

Today I am sharing a piece that I made to display on my desk at work. I’ve been trying to make one for each season and we are here we have Spring.

These do take a bit of time to make as I must cut the die multiple times to get all the pieces I need. But I love the way they turn out and have given several as gifts.
