Day 28 and the final day of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun and find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches today, tomorrow and beyond.
~Irish blessing

Today is the last day of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE .

I didn’t skip day 27. I didn't post because I am still working on the crochet cocoon for my daughter. I was hoping it would be completed today but I had to get some challenge cards completed so it will be another day or so before I can share the finished garment.

What I am sharing today is a card I made from scraps left over from one of the challenge cards I made

I punched out the butterfly then based with a piece of ¼” strips woven together.

Items used
  • Butterfly punch from Stampin Up!
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Flower from Prima
  • Glossy paper scraps from another card using the alcohol & ink technique

Day 26, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Daughters can lift the heart by merely speaking on the telephone, or sharing in a shopping expedition, or calling in for coffee.
~Pam Brown, To My Lovely Daughter, 2013, helenexley.com

Today is day 26 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE . Only 2 more days left!!!!

I didn’t skip day 25, I just forgot to create a post for it so here is a quick overview.

I found these vintage valentines while going through boxes of photos I removed from my mom’s house after she passed away. I was able to scan them and clean them up so I can use them as digital images on cards.

For day 26, I am sharing the progress on a cocoon I am crocheting for my daughter.

I may share it when I am totally finished but I won't share the source if I do because I had nothing but issues with the pattern and supply list …

I do love the colors, but frankly, I think this will be quite heavy given the amount of yarn I had to purchase to make this.

Day 24, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“When someone tries to trigger you by insulting you or by doing or saying something that irritates you, take a deep breath and switch off your ego.
Remember that if you are easily offended, you are easily manipulated.”

Today is day 24 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and today I am sharing a new card I made using salvaged pieces from one I’d made but (Ahem) dropped a black ink pad on.

I ended up tearing the original card to pieces when trying to dismantle but I managed to salvage the bird and the button brad.

There is a touch of a glitter pattern on the bird that has an iridescent look. I was able to dig some glitter cardstock scraps out of my scrap pile that actually works quite well with it.

A new embossed background and a a bit of layering and I have a card that can be used for whatever. I sometimes don’t use sentiments on the front.

Thanks for stopping by!

Day 23, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too. ~Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912

Today is day 23 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE  and today I am sharing some cards I made using a couple of card base and papers I had stashed in my file book

The 4 cards are to go to the doggie day care I take my pups to on occasion. They are already doing fund raisers for a local shelter, a Veterans service dog programs and such so I though I would make some cards for them to sell with all proceeds going to the fundraisers.

All the Design paper for these 4 cards is from my file book. I just love the colors and could not trash them.

These two card bases were in the file from a previous project that I wound up not using.

This card was made using the laft over bits from the above cards. When I die cut the frame I messed it up but was able to cut in half and salvage for this card.

This was the last card I was able to make with the bits and pieces.
The orange piece is the inside oft he frame.

Day 22, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Snow-flakes! Yes, it is true, in accordance with the child-thought, you come floating so gently down from Heaven as if afraid of hurting the wintry earth.... Ye gentle, fleecy things!... Snow-flakes! ~A.S. Macduff, "The Message of the Snow-Flakes," in The Sunday Magazine (London), 1884

Today is day 22 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE .

I had several cards bases in my file book … I have absolutely no idea what I had planned for them.

These snowman stickers were gifted to me by a friend and I decided to use a couple. I have more so don’t be surprised if you see some more on other cards soon!

Additional supplies:
  • Banner punch from Stampin Up!
  • India Ink from Memories
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!
  • Snowflake embellishments from Stampin Up!

The Outlawz Sunday Song & Rhyme: Trees

Dawn-giddy birds chirp as if every morning is a special occasion. Wise, wise birds. ~Terri Guillemets

Today a new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges and will run through March 6th

Our sponsor this month is Wink Wink Ink!

The current challenge was selected by Susan

Trees
BY JOYCE KILMER

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Here is my card! I was inspired by the line “A nest of robins in her hair”

Supplies used
  • Image “Our Nest is Best” printed on Stampin Up! Whisper White cardstock
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Dies from Cheery Lynn Designs & Spellbinders
  • Distress Markers
  • Ink from Close to My Heart
  • Judikin’s Diamond glaze used on the corner hearts
  • Rhinestones from Reasonable Craft Dies
  • Sentiment from Unity Stamp Co.
  • WRMK Corner Chomper
  • Wink of Stella (Clear) used on the corner hearts

Day 20, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Dad, your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever. ~Author Unknown

Today is day 20 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE .

This card started out with a “Miss you” sentiment but I never used so it has been sitting in my card file for several years. With the Create Daily Challenge I figure now was a good time to change it up so I would use it!

This card always felt masculine to me so I changed out the sentiment to Happy Father’s Day. I also decided a bit of color would go a long way to brightening it up so I used some yellow nuvo drops here and there. I didn’t even think about the ink being water based and the Nuvo drops re-activated it causing the color to change from yellow to a reddish orange in a few areas. While unintentional I do really like how it looks.

Day 19, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Age is like the latest version of a software — it has a bunch of great new features but you lost all the cool features the previous version had. ~Terri Guillemets, "Thirties and beyond," 2006

Today is day 19 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE .

I missed day 18 because of this card which I am not sure I really like to be honest!

Part of the card front is from a salvaged card that I got who knows where. I matched the cardstock to the design paper best I could and added some left-over die cut birds I had in my die cut basket.

I then punched out three small circles and added to the card front. I do this all the time when I want to add embellishments to a card but either don’t have the right colors or size I want.

To jazz them up a bit I had Judikins diamond glaze to them. Sometimes I add glitter glue before topping with the diamond glaze.

But it this case, the three circles I punched are still cloudy with a bit of a blue look. I rarely have issues with this process and though maybe because the house was bit cold, so I waited and it never cleared up. Now I am wondering if the cardstock I used released some die into the wet glaze or if my glaze is old.

Day 17, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Christmas is a day of meaning and traditions... a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends. ~Margaret Thatcher

Today is day 17 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing another Christmas card I made reusing the front from a store-bought card.

I just love the Christmas tree on this card front. It’s a bit hard to see in the photo but it really sparkly and elegant looking!

I cut a piece of red mirror cardstock to cover the card base. It ties into the red ornaments on the tree. Since it wasn’t quite long enough to work into a slim line, I cut the card towards the bottom to stretch it out. To hide the gap that created, I covered with a piece of the red mirror cardstock then overlaid the banner sentiment.

Love how it turned out!

Day 16, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Christmas is the season when you buy this year's gifts with next year's money. ~Author unknown

Today is day 16 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a Christmas card I made reusing a card we received a couple years ago.

I still have lots of beautiful Christmas cards waiting for a new purpose! I was running out of energy today but wanted to get a card done for the Create Daily Challenge.

I love the glittery snow scene of this card.

I trimmed it down and attached it to its new 5 x 7 card base. I poked through my basket of die cuts and pulled at the word Celebrate die cut from a pretty blue glitter paper. I did pull a bit of gold glitter scrap out and punched a glitter star for the tree topper.

Day 15, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

O, money can't buy the delights of the glen,
Nor Poetry sing all its charms:
There's a solace and calm ne'er described by the pen
When we're folded within Nature's arms!
~James Rigg, "Nutting Time," Wild Flower Lyrics and Other Poems, 1897

Today is day 15 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a card that can be used for almost any occasion.

I was flipping through my book of UFO’s (Un-Finished Objects, Isn’t this hilarious? I picked it up from another crafter. Makes so much sense!)

Anyway, I digress!

As I was saying … I was flipping through my book of UFO’s looking for something to work on and settled on a fairly stuffed pocket thinking there HAD to be something interesting inside and emptied it out on my work bench …

It appeared to be mostly card bases that I had created but probably decided to go with something else at the time and just filed them away for later use … which explains why they were all stuffed into the same pocket.

Sorting through the mess I made, I found a 5 x 7 card base that had an attached blue embossed front.

With that I went to my basket of unused die cuts (which I really need to do something with!). I remember seeing some things I thought would work with the blue card base and lucky me I found them: A pile of die cut green clouds (which I have no idea why I cut them) and a die cut tree base that had been embossed with one of my wood look folders (which was for a Halloween card I'd started but then changed my mind and went in another direction.) A little more scrounging and I found a packet of die cut birds left overs from another card so BONUS!

Here is my completed card!

I layered out the green clouds and used foam dots to give dimension.
I then dug out my box of prima paper flowers and added some of those in pretty shades of pink and topped them with some yellow rhinestones from the dollar tree for the centers.

I then added the birds.

Quite often I do not add a sentiment to the front of my cards so they can be used for anything I need it for. Although this one sure seems very Spring like to me … so it will probably go out as an Easter card!

The Outlawz Crash your Stash Challenge: Craft foam

Cats have intercepted my footsteps at the ankle for so long that my gait, both at home and on tour, has been compared to that of a man wading through low surf. ~Roy Blount, Jr.

Good morning!
We have a new Crash your Stash Challenge starting at The Outlawz Challenges and our Sponsor this month is Sherry Wes Art with a prize of two images!

Our cue this month is Craft foam

I only have craft foam because I bought it at the dollar store years ago. These days I use it more for creating dimension on my cards that for anything else. But it cuts really well with dies (Tip: While thin dies do work, you have to work with the plate stack so you don’t damage your machine. I recommend the Sizzix bigz dies for die cutting as they are designed to cut through the thicker material.)

Supplies:
  • Image printed on Stampin Up! whisper white card stock
  • Bling from my stash
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio
  • Craft foam from The Dollar Tree
  • Die from Sizzix
  • Embossing folder from Carta Bella
  • Ink from Stampin Up!
  • Judikin diamond glaze
  • Pom pom from my stash (it was white. I rolled it around on a ink pad to color it)
  • ProMarkers
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!
Now come on over to The Outlawz Challenges to play along with us or one of the other challenges that are always in process!

Day 14, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

I believe in God, and that there are pieces of him, called love and goodness, in everyone. I also believe in prayer, not the memorized type mumbled in church but the spontaneous kind spoken, ironically, in the last breath of the day, when the lamp has been dimmed and the bedspread drawn down, and it's just you and those pieces of God in you, alone.... I suspect that when a man grows too big to kneel, then he is destined to fall. ~Joseph Kita, "God," Wisdom of Our Fathers, 1999

Today is day 14 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a repurposed Christmas card.

I love Christmas and I hate tossing away the beautiful Christmas cards we receive each year from family and friends around the world. Some I have found perfect frames for and they are now displayed during the Holiday Season but frankly, I just don’t have room to keep these wonderful reminders of faith, love and friendship and I don’t have the heart to throw them in the recycle bin.

The next best thing is to save what I can and make a new card to share with someone we love.

This card was created using the front for a card I found while going through a box of photos from my mom’s place. The card base from another card I had made but damaged when I splattered the image with some ink I was using on another project. The sentiment is a die cut from my scrap bin which I rubbed a bit of gold ink over to give it a burnished look and the snowflakes, which I also rubbed ink on, are also from my stash and a left over from another project.

Day 13, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Who does not thank for little will not thank for much. ~Estonian proverb

Today is day 13 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a new thank you card.

The original card was made about 4 years ago.

At one point I was cleaning out my card file and this card literally fell into pieces. If I remember correctly that was around the time, I bought some glue sticks which I think may have been old or bad because I had multiple cards fall apart during the mailing cycle. I’d find this out when the recipient called to tell me they received the card but it was in pieces.

Since this was the only thing I could think of, those sticks promptly when into the trash and I rarely use glue sticks now except to seal envelopes.

This is the new card

The cardstock used for the base is from Stampin Up!
That’s pretty much the only thing new. Everything else I was able to reuse.

Thanks for stopping by!

Day 12, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him. ~Dereke Bruce

Today is day 12 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a card I had to do a re-make of.

I noted in one of my earlier post that I seem to have a problem with dropping ink pads on my finished cards and this was one of my victims. This poor card got nailed twice! I dropped the pad on the edge and in the process of picking it up I dropped it again!

BEFORE

For this reason, I could not salvage the card base or the pink embossed cardstock. I also had to trim a bit of the main panel. I tried recreating as an A2 cards but really didn’t like how it was looking so opted to go with a 5 x7 size card base. I like it much better!

RE-MAKE

Supplies
  • Reclaimed card front (supplies were all from Close to My Heart)
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio
  • Pearls from Recollections

Day 11, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today is day 11 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a simply card that I made basically from scraps.

  • The base for this card started out as a 5 x7 card but I cut down to 5.5 x 4.25. I had put this one aside because I glued the embossed piece on wrong so the card would have opened on the left instead of the right. Plus, it was a little off center.
  • The design paper is a left-over piece from me playing with ink and alcohol on glossy paper
  • The sentiment was one I dug out of a basket of unused die cuts.
  • The black rippled paper is a scrap from scrap bin
  • The white looped circle was also found in my basket of unused die cuts
  • I added some paper flowers from Prima
  • Pearls are from Recollections
  • Nuvo Pearl drops

Day 10, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren't trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.
Umberto Eco
Today is day 10 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

I needed to make a birthday card for my Father-in-law so I flipped through my book and pulled out the pieces for card I had started but for some reason never finished.

I did have to find the die and cut out the hands to the clock since it appears that I did not cut those out. Just the gears.

The sentiment was part of larger sentiment but I just masked it off and stamped it out. A burnished brad to attach the hands to the face of the clock and some flicked Silk in silver and licorice for some added interested.

I love how this came together! Simple, but masculine.

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: card base
  • Brad from my stash
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Die unknown
  • India Ink from Memories
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!

Day 9, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

The true peace of God begins at any spot a thousand miles from the nearest land. ~Joseph Conrad

Today is day 9 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my card today I pulled out a card front I made that required some paper piecing. This is actually the pieces left from another card I did a while ago. I'm thinking I didn't do anything with this because a section torn out, which means I must have damaged it and didn’t have the patience or time to figure out a fix.

It really was just a simple fix with the sentiment cover the damaged part. So now I have a nice masculine birthday card to add to my file.

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: card front made with sailing ship
  • Card stock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from Colorbok
  • Die from Printable Heaven (?)
  • Embossing folder from Stampin Up!
  • Ink from Stampin Up!
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!

Day 8, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Death is never a clean break — some stardust always remains. ~Terri Guillemets

Today is day 8 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my card today I am using a card front I made sometime last year while playing with a new set of dies I had been gifted. I love sunflowers.

I made a sympathy card. Not because I need it but because I struggle having to make them in a time of need, so I try to have several on hand at any given time. Unfortunately, given these current times I have none and need to make more.

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: card front made from a sunflower die
  • Banner punch from Stampin Up! (love this punch!)
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Embossing folder (used on banner) from Stampin Up!
  • Indian Ink from Memories
  • Sentiment from Simon Says Stamps

Day 7, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

There are joys which long to be ours. God sends ten thousand truths, which come about us like birds seeking inlet; but we are shut up to them, and so they bring us nothing, but sit and sing awhile upon the roof, and then fly away. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Today is day 7 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my card today I am using a panel that was left when I cut up a piece of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper. You know the kind that is designed to actually BE the page in the scrapbook, not part of it!

I kept this piece because I love the glitter and bright spring colors. The card is pretty basic but sometimes simple is better. Especially when you have such a fun scene to play with!

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: panel piece from 12 x 12 scrapbook page
  • Card candy from my stash
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base)
  • India Ink from Memories
  • Sentiment from Unity Stamp Company

Ladybug Love ...

Lovely little ladybug sent from heaven above
please watch over my garden and fill it up with love.
~Author Unknown

Today a new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges and will run through February 20th and our sponsor this month is Wink Wink Ink! Make sure you check out her shop HERE

This fortnight challenge was selected by me!

Oh, Lovely Ladybug by Lora Hollings

Oh lovely ladybug, take me to a place so fair
where I do not have a care...
In a meadow where a rainbow bridges earth and sky,
and hills that reach high-
where there are bluebells and cowslips everywhere.
In a dress like yours that is red with black spots,
let me dance on flower tops;
And sip tea in a lovely lea with the ladybug queen
who has never been seen.
Let me be light as a feather and give me wings so I can take flight-
to a land of ladybugs filled with much delight.

Here is my card

When I finished coloring the ladybugs, I took some random stencils and using a Q-tip dipped in alcohol I used a stencil to get some texture on their them. I then coated them with masking fluid. Once set I cut out a cloud stencil from a piece of paper and sponged the background. Then removed the dried mask and added Wink of Stella to the hearts.

Supplies used
  • Image “Luv Bugs” printed on Stampin Up! Whisper White cardstock
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Clear Wink of Stella used on the hearts

Day 4, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Hugging has no unpleasant side effects and is all natural. There are no batteries to replace, it's inflation-proof and non-fattening with no monthly payments. It's non-taxable, non-polluting, and is, of course, fully returnable. ~Author unknown

Today is day 4 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my day 4 project I did not make another Christmas Card but I’m sure there will be more in the future as I have lots Christmas Type bits & pieces to use!

Anyway … I seem to have a terrible problem dropping ink pads on finished cards. I have no clue why but I guess I have about 10 cards sitting in a pile waiting to be checked over to see if I can salvage anything off of them

My card today was actually made for a challenge last year. (You can see the original post HERE). I had made it with someone specific in mind and while I was getting the stamp for the inside inked up, I hit the pad just right and yep … there it was, splat! Sometimes I get lucky and the mishap can been swiftly and easily covered with no one but me the wiser, but not this time!

Needless to say, I was not happy so set the card aside for a later recovery effort and here it is.

The card was a 5 x 7 card so I had to trim quit a bit off the top and along the right side to get the ink streaks off. I had a bit of the original DP I used to die cut the tea cup and sentiment so it made a great layering piece.

Supplies (best I can recall)
  • Repurposed item: Damaged card front
  • Card stock (base) unknown, “vapor” cut from a Bazzill scrap
  • Design paper from Stampin up
  • Dies: Unknown
  • Lace order embossing folder from Darice
  • Silk from Fun Stampers Journey

Day 3, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

If your sister is in a tearing hurry to go out and cannot catch your eye, she's wearing your best sweater. ~Pam Brown, quoted in Sisters…, 1995, helenexley.com

Today is day 3 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my day three project I made another Christmas card using a card front I made that looked like a sweater. I was trying to duplicate a “Sweater” that my friend had made and sent to me. Once I finished it, I set it aside and forgot about it.

I added a sentiment tag that was gifted to me and a couple splashes of FSJ silk for interest.

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: “Sweater” card front
  • Cardstock from unknown (base) and Stampin up
  • Embossing folders from Stampin Up! (I think)
  • Sentiment tag was a gift
  • Silk from Fun Stampers Journey

Day 2, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Mistletoe and gleaming holly,
Symbols of a blessed day...
~Louisa May Alcott, "Merry Christmas," in The Horn of Plenty, 1876

Day 1, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love! ~Hamilton Wright Mabie, "Christmas Eve," 1885

So, a day late with this one ...

Trish is running a Create Daily Challenge on her Facebook page Phoenix Paper Crafters located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

I have 3-ring binders with paper protectors or poly pockets depending on where you live. I filled them with unfinished cards, cards that need to be re-made for some reason, matched papers and misc items that I thought would be cute on cards or scrapbook pages.

These books are full to the brim and I just can’t add any more so my goal is to start cleaning out these books and get things made!

For this card I had a really cute tag that was made and given as a hostess gift by a friend who had a Christmas Event for her Fun Stampers Journey business. I loved the tag and thought it would make a great card … so here we are!

This is a pretty basic card as I really wanted to make sure the tag stood out. The embossing folder gives just enough interest to keep it from being boring.
