Card for Garrett

Adolescence is a period of rapid changes. Between the ages of 12 and 17, for example, a parent ages as much as 20 years. ~Author Unknown

Hi Everyone!
Today I am sharing a card I made for Garrett Brown, a young man who is turning 16 years old today! Fabulous right? A milestone birthday on a leap year day!

In 2002 he was mauled quite badly by a dog and was left mostly blind with multiple facial scars. It seems he read an article (he reads braille) about a little girl whose wish was to receive Christmas cards and he started wondering why he never received any mail for his birthday.
So a request was issued asking people from around the world to make his 16th birthday wish come true!

Here is the card I made for him using the sketch on the left ... I found it on Pinterest but I don't know where it comes from :O(

Supplies

Card stock from The Paper Studio, Stampin Up!, Bazzill & Sizzix
Design paper from DCWV (I think)
Dies: Mixed Media from Sizzix
Dies: Banner from Stampin Up!
Ink from Stampin Up!
Sentiment from Inkahootz!

Thoughts of You

You've got a lot of choices. If getting out of bed in the morning is a chore and you're not smiling on a regular basis, try another choice.
--- Steven D. Woodhull, 1999 (U.S. geologist, b.1976) ---

And a Blessed Day this is everyone!
I hope you are all doing well today and always.

I received some sad news this weekend that the mother of an close friend passed on to a better place and time.

I knew that she had been extremely ill for some time but it is still never easy to hear when loved ones, be they friends or family, have died.

So here is a card I made to send to her daughter and son.

I made the card based on the sketch on the left.

Valentine for the In-Laws

Who, being loved, is poor?
- Oscar Wilde -

Good morning my Crafty Peeps ...
I hope the coming day is bright and glorious for each and everyone of you!

Happy Valentines day to those who celebrate...

Some interesting tidbits about Valentine's Day and more can be found here at The History Channel.

As a child I remember being told that Valentine's Day commemorated St. Valentine, a priest who wrote love letters to a young woman while he was imprisoned for doing something he wasn't suppose to ... or something like that but as with most of our religious or popular holidays, it appears the foundation for this one can be also be found in a pagan holiday.

Apparently the Church Elders of the time decided that February 15... or the Ides of February, would be a great time to memorialize St. Valentine and as "luck" would have it, that day was the same day that Lupercalia, a fertility festival dedicated to the Roman God Faunus and to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus as held.

Whatever your beliefs are about the day, there is no denying that Valentines Day has turned into a huge "Hallmark" Holiday.

"According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines."

WOW - Just WOW ... that's a lot of cards!

So today I am sharing the Valentine card I made for my In-laws.  I recently purchased some new dies and they just came in the mail so I had some new toys to play with!!!

I love quilts. I have made a few small ones but sewing, while I am quite capable at it, is not my passion :O)... but I love looking at them and I enjoy recreating some patterns with paper pieces.

One of the dies I purchased cuts a "Quilt" complete with stitch marks. I had some fun messing with this before I ever got around to making this card! LOL

Christmas Holly

Very gay they were with snow and sleigh-bells, holly-boughs, and garlands, below, and Christmas sunshine in the winter sky above. All faces shone, all voices had a cheery ring, and everybody stepped briskly on errands of good-will.

- Louisa May Alcott, "Seamstress," Work: A Story of Experience, 1873 -

Good evening my Crafty Peeps!
Thought I would get in on the Sketch Challenge this week from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.
You can find the sketch I followed HERE.

Since I cut it way too close for cards last year, making sure I started early and I decided that when possible, I would make two cards at a time ... so there are actually two ... the picture is showing the sentiment from the set I used (Which by the way, if anyone happens to know this set and who made it I would be most appreciative if you would leave my that information! Thanks!)

Supplies
Card stock from The Paper Studio
White Glitter paper from Recollections
Red Glitter tape from CTMH

Die: Holly from Darice
Red Glitter Glue (for the berrie) from Stampin Up!

Afghan for my Mom

No language can express the power, and beauty, and heroism, and majesty of a mother’s love. It shrinks not where man cowers, and grows stronger where man faints, and over wastes of worldly fortunes sends the radiance of its quenchless fidelity like a star. ~Edwin Hubbell Chapin

Hello
I made this afghan for my mom quite some time and finally managed to get a picture of it!

Birthday for Ms Pris

A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman's birthday but never remembers her age.
--- Robert Frost ---

Good morning ...

Here today is a Birthday card for a co-worker!

Sorry for the picture quality ... For some reason I really struggled with this one and my light box. And I couldn't wait for another day because I needed to take into office for everyone to sign.
I don't know a lot about photography and I normally just happy when I get decent pictures ... of anything but I think I just need to maybe work with the light angle better.

Anyway, a nice CAS birthday card based on this card HERE.

Supplies used:
Card stock from The Paper Studio and Stampin Up!
Sentiment from Inkahootz!
Flowers created from DP scraps and Stampin Up! Punches
"Cascading Flowers" Embossing folder from Sizzix

Give crayons. Adults are disturbingly impoverished of these magical dream sticks.
~Dr. SunWolf, 2009 tweet, professorsunwolf.com

Well good morning everyone!
I am back on a Design Team for The Outlawz! This time it is the Progressive Freebie Challenge and today we have a new one starting.

Rules are simple: Each month we will send you a free digital image to use in the Freebie/Progressive challenge. Once your creation is completed, upload it into the freebie challenge at The Outlaws and you will automatically receive the next month free digi.  We will have one image per month so you have plenty of time to create a project using the image. Please register with your name and email address to:

outlawzprogressivechallenge@gmx.com

This month's image has been provided by Teresa Arsenault (Tickell Expressions) and the winner will be able to have her make a custom digi just for them! How exciting!

Normally Teresa does not sell her images, but for a small donation to The Outlawz to help maintain the site, you will receive a copy of the image.

I hope you will join us this month!
